| 1. Should North Carolina parents who choose to educate their children in a non-public school be eligible to receive a state-funded scholarship grant to assist with the cost of tuition and fees? | N* | I believe every child deserves an excellent education. While I respect parents right to choose the educational environment that best meets their childs needs, my priority is ensuring North Carolinas public schools are fully funded because they educate the overwhelming majority of our children and serve every student who walks through their doors. |
| 2. Should the N.C. General Assembly authorize non-tribal commercial gambling casinos in North Carolina? | Y* | This supports job creation, increases state and local tax revenue, economic development and tourism keeping gambling dollars in North Carolina as long as it is legal, regulated and conducted responsibly. In addition, proceeds should be contributed to putting safeguards in place that address gambler addiction through hotlines, gamblers anonymous and other support organizations. |
| 3. Should abortion be prohibited in North Carolina once a fetal heartbeat is detected? | U* | Protecting the life and health of a mother must always be a priority. I believe medical decisions should be made between a woman and her health care provider. Because fetal heartbeat bans can create uncertainty in medical emergencies and may delay lifesavings care it is my opinion that a woman and her health care provider should be in control when making this decision. I do support a womans right to choose her health care. |
| 4. Should North Carolina voters be required to show a photo ID in order to vote in North Carolina? | N* | Every eligible citizen should have the opportunity to vote without unnecessary barriers. Election security is important, but so is ensuring that every qualified voter can participate in our democracy. I support policies that protect both the integrity of our elections and equal access to the ballot. |
| 5. Should the N.C. General Assembly legalize the use of marijuana for medical purposes? | Y* | I support legalizing medical marijuana under the supervision of licensed health care providers for patients with qualifying medical conditions. Compassionate, evidence-based treatment options should be available to those suffering from serious illnesses while maintaining strong safeguards against misuse. |
| 6. Should state nondiscrimination laws include "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" as protected classifications? | Y* | Every North Carolinian deserves to be treated with dignity, fairness, and respect. I support protecting individuals from discrimination in employment, housing, and public accommodations while also respecting the constitutional rights of all North Carolinians. Equal opportunity strengthens our communities and our economy, |
| 7. Should biological male students who identify as female be allowed to participate on female sports teams? | U* | I am still evaluating this issue because it requires balancing fairness in competition. This is a complex issue involving fairness in athletics, the well-being of all students, and evolving legal and medical considerations. Every student deserves dignity and respect, and I want to continue listening to educators, parents, student-athletes, medical experts, and my constituents before reaching a final position. |
| 8. Should organizations that provide abortions be allowed to receive state funds? | Y* | Organizations that provide comprehensive health care, including reproductive services, should be eligible for public funding when those funds are used for authorized health services under state and federal law. Also, they provide information regarding abstinence, birth control, and other pertinent health care for women such as mammograms, cancer screenings, wellness exams and more to help women stay healthy. |
| 9. Should North Carolina law allow a medical professional to assist another person in ending their life? | U* | This is a deeply personal and ethical issue that deserves careful consideration with strong safeguards. |
| 10. Should a health care practitioner, who is present at the time a child is born alive after a failed abortion attempt, be required by state law to exercise the same degree of skill, care, and diligence to preserve the life and health of that child as would be expected for any other child born alive at the same gestational age? | Y* | This reflects current medical ethics that a child born alive should receive appropriate medical care. |
| 11. Should North Carolina public schools be required to allow students to voluntarily participate in “released time” religious instruction during school hours—provided that it takes place off-campus, with parental consent, and at no cost to the public school unit? | Y* | As long as participation is voluntary, parent-approved, off campus, and does not use taxpayer funds. |
| 12. Should N.C. law (G.S. §90-21.5) continue to allow minors to consent to the treatment of venereal disease or other reportable communicable diseases, pregnancy (not including abortion), abuse of controlled substances or alcohol, and emotional disturbance, without parental consent? | Y* | This helps young people receive timely care for communicable diseases, substance abuse, pregnancy, and mental health while balancing public health and safety." |
| 13. Should churches and other qualified religious organizations continue to receive tax-exempt status? | Y* | This is the longstanding practice for qualifying nonprofit religious organizations. |
| 14. Should a person’s religious beliefs influence the decisions they make while serving in public office? | N* | Public officials naturally have personal values, but their decisions should be based on the Constitution, the law, evidence, and serving all constituents regardless of faith |
| 15. Should the number of terms a state legislator may serve in the North Carolina General Assembly be limited? | N* | I believe voters should decide who represents them. If legislators continue to earn the confidence of their constituents and remain healthy, effective, and continue to earn the voters trust, they should be eligible to continue serving. Elections provide the appropriate mechanism for accountability and change. |
